In Thought Contagion by Aaron Lynch, he states, “Anyone who feels that he or she is ‘losing’ could become more inclined to shift away from long-held beliefs” (32). This statement by Lynch makes me wonder if progressives were to reframe issues and put out the message what “hard times” these are and then show how people lose with conservative representation, might it help more progressives be elected?
Then, on page 33, when Lynch states, “In the area of fashion, innovations often self-advertise by mere novelty to the current populace: a style not seen in recent memory catches the eye better, boosting the rate of imitation” it makes me wonder if teaching could be substituted for fashion and whether any transference of imitation would occur. That is, I wonder if the likeliness of imitation can be transferred from one group to another? From a visual rhetoric perspective, if instructors looked like people to imitate, could their students’ desire to emulate them on other levels transfer? This could very well be too huge of a leap, but I thought I’d just put it out here and see what it leads me too even if this doesn’t work.
