I attended an all day meditation retreat this past Saturday as part of the finale for my meditation class. It was nice to sit in silence all day. I realized how pleasant it is to sit with others and not chatter. I was able to relax into the silence without feeling the need to fill it. However, Sunday I was quite stressed by all that I had to do and wasn’t the most productive.
Yeah, so balance is important.
I’m learning more this semester how I work best. I find that actually marking out hours on my calendar to write, study, and grade papers works better than just making a to-do list. I got in two good hours of writing and one and a half on my French homework. Plus, I worked four hours at the writing lab and then came home and worked three hours to prep a talk I’m giving today for about 20 Columbia teachers. And, I managed to get in a 15-20 minute workout and sleep 6 1/2 hours on top of it.
Ok, so this account is probably boring for you, but I’m excited by working out some kinks in my schedule. I’ll try for more a more compelling post tomorrow.

Not boring at all. You’re just proving what I already know.

I guess we each have to figure it out for ourselves. It was exciting to get up this morning and see what more I could accomplish today. Because of my successes yesterday, I felt less stress today.
Also, it’s really been apparent for me this semester when I try and push myself to do more than is physically possible. Before I’ve been able to push it beyond what is optimally healthy and now my body is basically rebelling and saying, “not so fast. i need to rest a bit before we do any more.”
