via My Yahoo! homepage today:
We Need Spy Blogs, by Kris Alexander at Wired and it’s got me thinking about the blurring of public and private, information sharing, and knowledge management.

Alexander’s suggestion is to have blogs on the Intelink so that the “intelligence community” can better communicate amongst themselves. Sounds like a good idea. But, then Alexander mentions mining the public for information such as the CIA having a blog and the world can contribute. Let’s stop there for a minute.

I don’t think there is a value add for the intelligence community to invite the world to the party. Don’t they already have an overwhelming amount of data to vet? They don’t really need more data; rather, they need to process the data they already have. The blogosphere doesn’t have access to the classified Internet, so it really couldn’t help process, or vet data.

Second, I think there is already too much paranoia and excessive fear about strangers. I’d rather get to know my neighbors than spy on them for Big Brother.
