I talked to my Dad this morning and he said he feels pretty good. He said they had him on a heart monitor all night and that there were no more problems. That is very good news. Yeah!
The Dr. has been in to see him and I think from what Dad said, ordered a cortisone shot for him. Dad said the Dr. can’t figure out what is wrong with him and explained it to me as similar to when he, as a mechanic, can’t figure out what is wrong with a motor because it won’t run. Ahh…mechanics and doctors — so much guesswork. I don’t tell him that his analogy doesn’t make me feel so good. I want them to know what is wrong. Exactly. And, have a plan to fix it.
Dad sounded in good spirits, but his voice was slurred a bit. Then, I noticed that he wasn’t complaining, which bothers me a bit. Every other time he has been in the hospital, he was quick to complain and say he wanted to go home. He would tease the nurses or say how irritating they were (because they wouldn’t respond to his particular brand of humor). Not this time. When I asked how long they were going to keep him, he just said he didn’t know.
One of the things he did mention is that when the Dr. was in to see him that he didn’t understand half of what he said because of the language. Ok, so that frustrates me. I want Dad to know what is going on — not to mention that I would appreciate a few more details! According to Dad, another family member who is a nurse is trying to reach the Dr. to find out more.
Maybe if I wasn’t so stressed with the end of the semester, I wouldn’t be reacting with as much stress to this situation.
Practically speaking, since there were no more problems noticed with his heart and as long as that continues to be the case, he just has a problem with a pinched nerve in the 5th or 6th vertebrae that is preventing him from standing up or walking. As long as they can fix it so that he doesn’t fall over and hurt himself when he is vertical, things will be fine.
Intellectually, I know that worrying will not help the situation. I just need to stop that. Really. There are other things that need doing.

How stressful. I hope he’s all right.
