digital content strategy, social media marketing, and seo expertise
Donna asked in a post below how we might encourage faculty to start blogging. I’m going to attempt to start a list and if any of my readers have any ideas, please chime in below.
Market your own blog
1. Put blog URL in your email signature line.
2. Send your blog links to colleagues (e.g. I just blogged a topic I thought you might be interested in following/joining the discussion.)
3. Consider suggestions from blogger and ebusiness.
Play matchmaker
1. Send URLs of other blogs to faculty who you think might be interested in reading it.
Blog in Public
1. Consider buying and wearing an “I’m blogging this” T-shirt
2. Send blog post links to listservs.
Hobbies
1. Are there a bunch of chefs, gardeners, or knitters among the faculty? Start a blog about those topics.
Market others who are doing campus-wide blogging
1. Blog@USF
2. Schoolof.info
3. Weblogs@UPEI
4. weblogs.ucalgary.ca
5. UThink
6. weblogg-ed
7. Warwick Blogs
8. Blogging@UVM
People who are spreading the word…
1. Blogs@Middlebury College
2. IDD Design Program
3. EdBlogger Praxis
4. Ohio Weblogs
Wow, this is really encouraging. This brings me to a couple final categories for today:
How to get started in 4 easy steps:
1. Get a free blog, such as Blogger.com.
2. Write at your blog.
3. Read other blogs with a tool such as Bloglines.
4. Join the conversation — respond to people who comment on your blog and comment on other people’s blogs you find through Bloglines.
How to keep it going (once you’ve got the basics down):
1. How to write a better weblog. (and, one could say that writing good posts belongs as the number one thing you can do, but I don’t want anyone to think you have to be brilliant right off the line.)
2. Add links and images to your posts.
3. How to Podcast.
