Today was a really good day. There are days when things come together in unexpected ways and that is how it happened today.
One of the groups that I asked for help with funding just came through with an extra $250. It’s hard to believe. I am just ecstatic! This means that registration costs are covered and now I’m working on travel expenses.
I’m waiting to hear from the English Grad Student Assoc. about a $100 grant for the Computers and Writing Conference. Also, I need to apply for a GRN grant.
I’m thinking about riding my motorcycle to Lubbock for the Computers and Writing Conference and then fly to Columbus for DMAC and then fly back to Lubbock and ride home to Columbia after DMAC. The timing is just really tight so I’m not sure how it will work out best, especially considering fuel and flight costs. I really need some bike time. I’ll have to punch in the numbers and see what I can manage.
Here is how my summer is lining up:
Head to TX and spend time with friends: ASAP
Computers & Writing Conference: May 25-28
DMAC Institute: May 29-June 9
Summer classes begin: June 13
Summer classes end: August 4
Vacation–Offline: August 7??
Fall classes start: August 21
I’m excited now about everything that is going on; however, I’m sure I’ll be ready for some serious downtime come August.
Update 4/26/2006 9:50 pm — I just got an email telling me that I’ve been awarded the $100 that I applied for to go to the Computers & Writing Conference. YEAH!!!! That award will pay for most of the $130 registration fee. So now for that conference, I’m only down $30, plus $60 for a shared dorm room, plus travel costs.
I am so grateful. It’s been a long winter.

I am SOOOOO glad to read all of this good news! It sounds like you are up for some fun things in the near future, and that can make up for a lot of hard times. I hope it works out for you to bike your way to wherever you want to go, and that the weather works out for you too!
