Lots going on and lots on my mind lately…
First, I can’t get enough sleep. My body is asking for 9-12 hours lately. Then, I’m tutoring in the Writing Lab and my summer professional writing class is going well thanks to some ideas I got while attending the Computers & Writing Conference in Lubbock. And, presently, I’m working on an invited talk that I’m giving tomorrow at the Missouri Writing Project Summer Institute about moblogging. I’ll post the handout when it’s finished.
Meanwhile, I had to take a break for a minute and I thought I’d share a little from my trip to Trader Joe’s (yes, it is a trip at ~ 100 miles away!).
I picked up some old favorites such as TJ’s Brushetta, Double Roasted Salsa, frozen French Green Beans, spaghetti sauce (they have 3 flavors and they’re all good), Organic Blueberry Preserves, and frozen Seafood Medley. Plus, I found a new favorite product: TJ’s Organic Limeade. My goal was to make the hands down best margarita recipe ever, but I may run out of limeade before I get the other ingredients. hee.
I tried TJ’s refrigerated pizza dough and topped it with their Roasted Garlic Marinara and shredded 4 cheese blend. The pizza was edible, but not spectacular. I really liked the marinara, but the crust took forever to get crispy, even though I cooked it on a pizza stone. I ended up sliding it off the stone after about 20 minutes and cooking it directly on the oven rack with a sheet of aluminum foil over the top to prevent the cheese from browning too much. Like I said, it turned out edible in the end, but just not spectacular. I have another bag of dough in the freezer. Next time I may try and cook the pizza crust for 20 minutes before I add the sauce and toppings.
Another new product I purchased, that I’ve yet to fix, is Brown Basmati Rice. I really like TJ’s Frozen Brown Rice, but I decided to get some of the brown basmati to try. I’ll let you know how it is after I fix it.
I would not recommend the Moral Fiber Orange Cranberry muffins. They’re ok, but a little dry and not very fruity.
Oh, but speaking of grains, I walked next door to the Harvest Bread Company. I sampled their Strawberry Shortcake bread. Oh! It is delicious!! I was good though. I only came home with one loaf of Sunflower bread.
Do you have a Trader Joe favorite?

TJ’s dried chile-spiced mangos are very yummy. I also love their teriyaki sauce – and the eggplant cutlets. Oh, there’s also the red pepper tomato soup… I freakin’ love TJ’s!!!

I have tons of TJ’s favorites–and I finally live where there is a TJ’s just 5 miles away. I’m with you that the frozen brown rice and brushetta are staples. Let’s see, then there’s soy nuggets (very yummy!), frozen steelcut oatmeal, Honey Nutty Seedy Crunchies, their many varieties of dried fruit and plain (unsalted) nuts, their sparkling unsweetened apple cider…I could go on and on. And I also agree with you that the moral fiber muffins are to be avoided (I had the blueberry ones–bleck!).
