“The very essence of literature is the war between emotion and intellect” (Isaac Bashevis Singer).

I think we could say not just literature, but life.
But, keeping to literature, let me note that I had an intense emotional reaction to reading Cecilia last week. I hated it; I don’t care if I ever pick the book up again. 900 plus pages. Obviously, I will require some distance before I can evaluate it on an intellectual level. Hopefully, I will not be required to do so in the short-term!

This week we read Ann Radcliffe’s, A Sicilian Romance. I really liked this book. I’m working on my intellectual response now.
